제목 The order-to-disorder transition of SIS block copolymer in the presence of smectic clay
초록 We investigated the effect of an anisotropic silicate layer on the order to order (OOT) and order to disorder (ODT) transitions of a block copolymer in block copolymer/clay nanocomposites by using rheology, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The block copolymer employed in this study was polystyrene-block-polyisoprene-block-polystyrene copolymer (V41). The d-spacing of the clay for nanocomposites were examined by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The nanocomposites were prepared by two mixing methods: melt mixing and solution casting and annealing.
We found that the dispersion of the tactoids in a specimen prepared by melt blending where strong shear and elongational forces are present was much finer than that in another specimen prepared by solution casting and annealing. At constant clay content, the shear modulus at disordered state of the former specimen was much larger than that of the latter. Interestingly, we found that the TODT of V41 in a specimen with 1 % of the clay, which was prepared by melt blending, was decreased to 10 oC from that of neat V41. On the other hand, the ODT for another specimen prepared by solution mixing did not change even if the clay added was as large as 7 %. However, the OOTs for both specimens were not changed.
