Optical Property Change of BaO-TiO2-SiO2 glass according to the Composition Change and Crystallization |

Fresnoite Ba2TiSi2O8, belonging to P4bm group, has TiO5 square pyramidal structure, which is the origin of the polarizability of this crystal. Since Ba2TiSi2O8 crystal shows piezoelectric properties, this crystal is thought to be a candidate for surface-acoustic-wave devices. In the present study, we prepared BaO–TiO2–SiO2 (BTS) glasses with different chemical composition and corresponding crystallized glasses. The BTS crystallized glasses were prepared by the heat-treatment at crystallization onset temperature for several hours, and the crystallization behavior was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD). After crystallization, optical property change was measured by UV-vis. The absorption edges of the glasses were red-shifted and the absorption coefficient increased with increasing amount of TiO2. And density change was measured by a Archimedes method. After crystallization density of crystallized glass was increased and the refractivity was also increased as density increase. |
