Kinetics and Polymerization Mechanism of Ethyl 3-Aminocrotonate and the Rheological Properties of Polybetaines |

Kinetics and mechanism of polymerization of ethyl 3-aminocrotonate and acrylic acid proceeding via Michael reaction and leading to the formation of novel polybetaines have been studied. The rate constants and activation energy of the polymerization process were evaluated by FT-IR in bulk without initiator added. In the course of the radically initiated polymerization a dependence of polymer yield on the molar ratio of monomers and nature of solvents was found. The structure of polymers was established by potentiometric titration, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of polybetaines were characterized by TGA acd DSC. The apparent ionization constants of acid and base groups were found from the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation. The rheological properties of the aqueous solutions of polybetaines were studied as a function of polymer concentration, temperature and neutral salt added . |
