Ionic liquids (ILs) have been considered as a promising alternative electrolyte for their extraordinary properties including high thermal, chemical, and electrochemical stability, high ionic conductivity, negligible vapor pressure, and low flammability. Although imidazolium-based ILs have been extensively studied, the attempts to use these ILs as electrolyte for lithium secondary batteries were not very successful due to the migration of imidazolium cations along with lithium ions as well as to their low cathodic stability for the presence of acidic C-2 hydrogen atom. The cathodic stability of the imidazolium compounds was enhanced by the introduction of ether group on the imidazolium ring for the absence of C-2 hydrogen and their interactions with lithium ions. |
