제목 Molecular design and synthesis of a new polymer electrolyte membrane based on self-assembly of block copolymers and its applications to fuel cell membrane
초록 Perfluorinated ionomer membranes have widely been used for polymer electrolyte membrane of PEMFC, because of high proton conductivity due to the microphase-separated morphology of the membrane. However, these membranes are very expensive and limited in the temperature range for PEMFC. In this study, a new polymer electrolyte membrane, which is durable, lower in cost and higher in proton conductivity, is prepared. For this purpose, poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(styrene-co-styrene sulfonic acid) is synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization and blended with poly (vinylidene fluoride) that would be expected responsible for good mechanical and chemical stability. This blend self-assembles into a microphase separated structure on a nanometer scale. The morphology and the proton conductivity of the membrane prepared in this study are examined as functions of the block copolymer composition and the blend ratio.
