Chitosan (poly-(D)glucosamine) is a commonly used biopolymer having biocompatible properties. To make electrospun hydrogel nanofibers, a sol consisting chitosan, PEGDA and Irgacure was used. Following the UV cross-linking step, the nanofibers became crosslinked. Nanofiber of 100-150 nm diameter without beads was observed using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. Silver nitrate solution dispersed in water was dropped onto the hydrogel nanofibers for silver crystallization. After the reduction step of Ag, crystalline silver was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, silver component homogeneously deposited on the surfaces of nanofibers was detected. By calcination, the hydrogel component could be removed. These silver nanoparticle contained hydrogel nanofibers can be applicable as anti-fouling products or conductive materials. |
