In this study, the blends of polypropylene and styrene-ethylene-butylenes-styrene copolymer were prepared by melt mixing in an internal mixer over the whole composition range. Phase inversion and glass transition behavior of the PP/SEBS copolymer blends were investigated by measuring morphology changes via scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and dynamic mechanical property with a Rheometrics Dynamic Spectrometer(RDS). PP/SEBS copolymer are immiscible in the melt as confirmed by the torque vs composition. The torque increases with the SEBS content due to the higher viscosity of the rubber component. The rheological results showed that PP and SEBS blends present different flow behavior at low and high frequencies, which can be related to the molecular structure of the polymers. The complex viscosity and storage modulus are strongly dependent on both the composition and the morphology of the blends. |
