In this presentation, synthesis and properties of novel polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) will be discussed. Novel polyethersulfones with intrinsic microporosity were polymerized by reactions of sulfone-containing monomer, 5,5’6,6’-tetrahydoxy-3,3,3’,3’-tetramethyl-1,’1-spirobiindane and tetrafluoroterephtalonitrile. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) results of polyethersulfone homopolymer and copolymers revealed that these polymers had high BET surface area (SBET) of 430 ~ 590 m2g-1 and the presence of micropores of 0.54 ~ 0.66 nm was confirmed by corresponding pore size distribution curves. These polyethersulfones with intrinsic microporosity is promising for use in gas separation membaranes. |
