The preparation of n-acetyl-para-aminophenol, an over-the-counter analgesics has been prepared via the environmentally benign liquid phase Beckmann rearrangement of 4-hydroxyacetophenone oxime over zeolite H-Beta.The reaction represents a strong case of active solvent participation, and the best catalytic performance can be attain in the presence of acetone as a solvent.The adsorptive power and the proton affinity of a solvent possibly play crucial roles in determining the performance of a reaction.
