Three dimensional (3D) electronic devices such as curvilinear image sensor, omnidirectional antenna, and robotics gives a lot of possibilities for sensing and acting like biologically evolved systems. In terms of manufacturing technology of 3D electronics, membrane-type electronics and shape-morphing provides possibility of using silicon-based technology. In particular, thermoplastic framework generated by fused deposition method enables automatic transformation by thermally-induced shrinkage. The related issue is shape control into a desired form with mechanical stability. In this work, we demonstrate 3D electronic device using a thermoplastic framework. The shape control is carried out by adjusting geometric parameters of framework. Moreover, mechanical analysis with computer simulation shows stability of metal electrode during thermal transformation. Finally, we also demonstrate 3D electronics using the transformable framework to show the feasibility of this technology. |
