Thermo-sensitive polymer composed with photosensitizer for thermal and photodynamic dual therapy |

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is known as treatment of a variety of diseases, especially cancer therapy. PDT uses photosensitizer (PS) that generate Reactive Oxygen Species when PS was irradiated light. However, it has been limited due to low tumor targeting and poor water solubility. To overcome these drawbacks, we have developed PS conjugated thermo-responsive polymer (PTRP) without side effects. PTRP was comprised PS and polymer. At various temperature, thermosensitive polymer changed its shape. To confirm change, we used the small-angle X-ray scattering. PTRP has a lower critical solution temperature in water. When it was heated, it suffers a phase transition from random-coil to collapsed form. Consequently, fluorescence, singlet oxygen generation were increased at 45 °C than at 37 °C. In vitro cytotoxicity was measured at different temperatures, induced cell death at hyperthermia condition. |
