Polymer-clay nanocomposites have received much interest recently because of its excellent properties such as mechanical property, heat resistance, barrier property, optical transparency, flame retardancy. But there were few reports on non-polar rubber clay nanocomposites due to low compatibility between rubber and clay. Anionically prepared star shaped styrene-butadiene random copolymer (SBR) accelerated the formation of modified organo-clay/rubber nanocomposites to give exfoliated structure in XRD. The organo-clay used in this study, was modified with quaternary ammonium salt including styrenic unit. The vulcanized properties of the resulting nanocomposites, such as tensile strength, 300% modulus, elongation at break, were measured. |
