Adhesion of SBR and polyurethane was investigated employing adhesives based on cator oil and hydroxyterminated polybutadiene which are partially miscible. In order to develop reactive adhesives for SBR and polyurethane, a catalyst for the reaction of the adhesives with polyurethane prepolymer, dibutyl tin dilaurate, and a radical intiator for the grafting of the adhesives onto the vulcanuzed SBR, tertiary butyl perbenzoate, were added. Adhesives containing reactive diluent solubility parameter of which matches closely to that of SBR showed cohesive failure in the adhesion tests. It was found that adhesives show different wettability depending on the content of the reactive diluent and the wetting of the adheives was prerequisite for the cohesive failure. |
