Poly(acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene) (ABS) is a common thermoplastic and important engineering copolymer. ABS is known to combine the strength and rigidity of the acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the toughness of the polybutadiene rubber. The most important mechanical properties of ABS are impact resistance and toughness. A variety of modifications can be made to improve the impact resistance, toughness, heat resistance and electric resistance. As carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon blacks (CBs) are based on carbon materials, they can provide high electrical and thermal conductivity for the polymer matrix. Nanocomposties of ABS filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and CBs were prepared via melt blending and solution blending, respectively. The thermal, mechanical and electrical properties were analyzed to compare the effect of the preparation method. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) or electrostatic dissipation (ESD) phenomena were also investigated. |
