Preparation and Characterization of Organoclay and Poly(acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene) (ABS) Nanocomposites |

Twice-functionalized organoclay (TFO) was synthesized from Cloisite25A (supplied by Southern Clay Products) by reacting with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane via ion exchange reaction. TFO was utilized to prepare nanocomposite with ABS by solution blending of ABS and organoclay, followed by melt mixing using a Brabender mixer. XRD and TEM were utilized to confirm the formation of nanoscale ABS-TFO hybrids and the localization of the ABS between the organosilicate layers. TGA and DSC were utilized to characterize the thermal properties of nanocomposites. Mechanical properties were also evaluated. The nanocomposites were subjected to adhesion study via T-peel test using bare as well as Cr/silane coated Cu foil. The bonding conditions were optimized by varying the bonding temperature and holding time at a constant bonding pressure, and T-peel test was carried using UTM at a cross-head speed of 2.54 cm/min. |
