In this work, the effect of oxygen plasma treatments on surface properties of SiC was investigated in mechanical interfacial properties of SiC/epoxy nanocomposites. As experimental results, the XPS results indicated that the O1S/C1S ratio of the SiC surfaces treated by the oxygen plasma was increased compared to that of untreated ones, possibly due to the development of oxygen-containing functional groups. The mechanical interfacial properties of the SiC/epoxy composites, including KIC, had been improved in the oxygen plasma treatment on SiC. This was due to the improvement in the interfacial bonding strengths, resulting from the acid-base interfacial interactions between polymer and filler. |
