Dispersion behaviors of chemically reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons in organic solvents |

Carbon-based materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene have attracted much attention, because of their excellent mechanical and electrical properties and high aspect ratio (>100). In particular, graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have thin elongated strips of sp2 carbon honeycomb structures, indicating one-dimensional graphene layers with high aspect ratios. These unique morphological characters result in numerous edge sites terminated by heteroatoms, leading to dispersion behaviors different from CNTs and graphene. In this study, chemically reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons (CR-GONRs) were prepared by unzipping of CNTs, and their dispersion behaviors were systematically investigated in various organic solvents. Interestingly, the CR-GONRs showed dispersion stabilities in a wide range of organic solvents from hydrophilic water to hydrophobic xylene, without any chemical treatment. |
