Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) have been received huge attention because of their potential in optoelectronic device applications. Size tunable energy levels and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) make NCs very suited to various optoelectronic applications such as photovoltaic cells (PVs), photocatalysis, and light emitting devices (LEDs). However, realization of NCs in practical device forms is largely disturbed due to air-instability of NCs. NCs are easily oxidized or decomposed upon air exposure. Therefore, to further use the NCs in optoelectronic devices, enhancing air stability of NCs are strongly required. Here, we present simple and novel strategies to dramatically enhance the air stability of NCs. Surface-engineered NCs showed markedly enhance stability, so device operation become possible even under air condition. Absorption, PL spectroscopy, XPS, and NMR spectroscopy studies revealed the origin of enhanced stability of NCs. |
