In this work we prepared novel Y-type nonlinear (NLO) polyester containing 1-(2,4-dioxyethoxy)phenyl)-2-{5-(2,2,3-tricyanovinyl)-2-thiophenyl)}ethenyl groups as NLO-chromophores, which constituted parts of the polymer backbones. We selected the latter because they have large dipole moment and are rather easy to synthesize. Furthermore they constitute novel Y-type NLO polyesters, and these Y-type NLO polyester have not yet been presented in the literature. These mid-type NLO polymers are expected to have both the merits of main-chain and side chain-NLO polymers namely stabilization of dipole alignment and good solubility. The resulting polyester was soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N-dimethylformamide. It showed thermal stability up to 300 oC in thermogravimetric analysis with glass-transition temperature obtained from differential scanning calorimetry near 134 oC. We will discuss their nonlinear optical properties. |
