Since the characteristic columnar stacking of discotic liquid crystals (DLCs) is capable of enhancing anisotropic molecular properties like carrier mobility along columnar axis, they have received much attention as promising candidates for various functional materials such as photoconductor, electroluminescent materials, molecular wires and so on. To date, a number of mesogens have been studied including triphenylenes, multiynes, phthalocyanines, and phorphyrins, which show different mesophase behavior according to their molecular and/or self-assembly structures. However, the reasons for the formation of their structures have remained unexplained. So, we tried to find the fundamental reasons for the formation of the self-assembly structure of DLC molecules by studying the relative inter- and/or intra-molecular interactions of DLCS using computer simulation and SAXS techniques. |
