Radiolytic Preparation of Cross-linked Fuoropolymer Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Applications |

Several cross-linked cationic exchange membranes for direct methanol fuel cells were prepared by radiolytic grafting of styrene/divinylbenzene mixtures into poly (tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoropropylvinylether) (PFA) and subsequent sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid. Various reaction conditions such as monomer contents, crosslinker contents, solvents, and irradiation conditions were applied to obtain the degrese of grafting, ion exchange capacities, and water uptakes of the cross-linked membranes. |
