The combination of fluorescent carbon nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles would be very effective materials for the detection of pathogenic bacteria and determination of antimicrobial activity. However, this combination has limitations due to the fluorescent quenching effect of the fluorescent carbon nanoparticles caused by the interaction with silver nanoparticles. Therefore, in the present study, we synthesize a system comprising poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and catechol chemistry in order to avoid the fluorescent quenching effect. PL and confocal measurements confirmed that nanoparticles has bright fluorescence, which can be applied for bacterial detection. E.coli and S.aureus were completely killed by nanoparticles at 5 mg/ml. In conclusion, due to the simple manufacturing method, effective performance in antibacterial, the nanoparticles system could be widely applied as a future antibacterial drug.
