Silver ions and metallic silver nanoparticles are used to separate olefin for facilitated transport membrane and adsorption processes. Acetylene can readily react with silver ions to form silver acetylide, known to be heat- and shock-sensitive, which should be therefore avoided. Formation of silver acetylide was investigated in aqueous and gaseous environments. Although the same procedure was also carried out with silver nanoparticles activated by electron acceptor to check the formation silver acetylide, no silver acetylide formation was evidenced in this case.Therefore it is concluded that the silver acetylide formation is very likely with silver salts but very unlikely with silver nanoparticles activated by electron acceptor. |
