Synthesis of polybenzimidazoles for proton exchange membrane fuel cells |

Membranes based on the polybenzimidazole (PBI) doped with phosphoric acid have been studied intensively because they can be used for the applications in the high temperature PEM fuel cells. This study deals with the synthesis of new PBIs, which have alkyl moieties in the side chain or in the main chain for the fuel cell membrane applications. These polymers were synthesized from the solution polymerization of the dicarboxylic acid derivatives containing alkyl moieties and the synthesis of the polymers was confirmed by IR spectroscopy. The thermal stability of the polymers was tested using Thermogravimetic analysis (TGA). Theses polymers were stable up to 300℃ |
