Retardation film has become a standard component of liquid crystal display (LCD) for high quality imaging related with contrast, coloration, and viewing angle performance. Recently, Merck and Nisseki have developed an in-cell retardation film by using LCP, in which acrylates or epoxy functional groups are polymerized to form a thin film polymer. However, there still remains a big challenge to explore more appropriate materials for this purpose in the sense of performance and processibility. TTF has been a famous molecule since the first organic metal TTF-TCNQ was found in 1970s. Recently, liquid crystals based on TTF molecules were reported, which was used for OTFT materials. In this presentation, we report a new synthesis of discotic liquid crystal compound based on TTF structure. In our experiment, benzene was introduced to the TTF system to extend the core of the mesogen and to give higher localized electron distribution. |
