Development of Bilayered Nanofibrous Sheet Containing Chitosan for Anti-adhesion Barrier |

Post-operative peritoneal adhesions are common and give serious complications for surgeons. They can cause pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially lethal bowel obstruction. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of bilayered nanofibrous sheet with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug on the prevention of post-surgical tissue adhesion. For this, bilayered nanofibrous sheets composed of chitosan and PLGA were fabricated by electrospinning method. The bilayered Chitosan/PLGA nanofibrous mat was characterized by several spectroscopic methods. Cell culture results showed that bilayered nanofibrous mat decreased initial cell attachment and proliferation. From in vivo animal test, it was observed that bilayered nanofibrous mats were significantly effective in preventing post-operative adhesion and wound healing. |
