Fabrication of stable polyelectrolyte multilayer film by epoxy crosslinking reaction |

Large area processing and patterning is one of the fields which should be developed for optical and electronic device in display technology. We used the layer-by-layer polyelectrolyte multilayer assembly method which gives the capability of large area fabrication and the environmentally benign processing condition. Main weakness of this method is that the fabricated ultrathin film does not have the robust integrity as device when polymer substrate is used. In order to overcome this problem, we studied the reaction between electrolyte and epoxy resin on a polymer substrate. Polyacriylic acid and polyallylamine were used as polyelectrolytes in order to utilize epoxy resins which can cross-link with multilayers. We confirmed the progress of reaction by FT-IR and contact angle measurement. The stability of multilayer film was tested by rubbing pH 1.3 solution. The epoxy reaction with used polyelectrolytes turned out to be a useful method. |
