To fabricate remote-controllable switches, we newly designed and successfully synthesized norbornene-based macromonomers with azobenzene mesogen. We analyzed the AZ3P by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM) and three different phases were identified at various temperatures (SmF, SmC, and SmA). Two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray diffraction (2D WAXD) showed that polynorbornene backbones and azobenzene side chains were arranged vertically and parallel to the film shearing direction, respectively. Irradiation of UV and visible light to the AZ3P film resulted in trans-to-cis isomerization indicating that photodynamic reversibility. The conductive silver layer was coated on the AZ3P films for the wireless switch of electric circuit. As a result, the AZ3P film can be used as remote-controllable switches and change the light-emitting diode (LED) colors on the circuit.
