Crystallization behaviors of high molecular weight PET nanocomposites |

The WAXD results showed that clay and POSS nanoparticles have no obvious peaks. The clay and POSS nanoparticles increased the crystallization temperature of PET by 23.6 oC and decreased the size of the crystals except for the usage level of clay 1 wt %. The incorporation of the nanoparticles decreased the equilibrium melting temperature by 5.3 oC. However, the loading level of clay 1 wt% increases the size of crystals. The half-time of crystallization was decreased with increasing the nanoparticles due to their nucleation effects of the nanoparticles. The crystallization rate was much faster with increasing clay and POSS nanoparticles content and the half-time of PET containing clay 1 wt % for crystallization was shortest among all samples. Isothermal crystallization under dynamic shear showed analogous crystallization behavior with quiescent isothermal crystallization. The acceleration effects of the nanoparticles on the crystallization of PET were more noticeable at lower shear rate. |
