Cyanide is one of the most toxic anions which can lead to death in very small concentration because cyanide ions can strongly bind with the Fe3+ in hemoglobin. We designed a new highly selective fluorescent sensor, dicyanovinylporphyrin(DCVP), for cyanide ions which was based on porphyrin as fluorescent dye and dicyanovinyl group as reactant with CN-. Upon addition of CN- the intensity of Soret-band of DCVP increased with blue-shift in absorption spectrum which was accompanied by the color change from orange to pink. Meanwhile, the fluorescence intensity reduced with increasing amount of CN-. The detection limit reached as low as 8.90 x 10-7 M in THF solution. We recently prepared various comparative compounds containing electron-donating and electron-accepting substituents. When detecting CN-, the DCVP with an electron-accepting moiety showed a more rapid decrease in the fluorescence intensity than the DCVP with an electron-donating moiety. |
