In this presentation, we provide our recent studies on the metal-free ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) using various organic photo-oxidants. In the metal-free ROMP, pyrylium and thiopyrylium salts serve as good photo-oxidants by initiating vinyl ether. We modified aryl derivatives of the photo-oxidants and applied them for the metal-free ROMP, which showed activities comparable to those of the parent structures. Across the series, we observed high yields of polymerization in short reaction times under mild conditions. |
