제목 Removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution using expanded perlite
초록 Heavy metals (i.e., cadmium (II), chromium (III), nickel (II) and lead (II)) can be removed from aqueous solution by expanded perlite. In this study, batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the removal of heavy metals under various conditions of metal concentration, pH, and contact time. Experiments were also done without the presence of expanded perlite to determine the extent of heavy metal removal by precipitation. The adsorption parmeters were determined using both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorptive behavior of Pb(II) and Cr(III) onto expanded perlite satisfies the Freundlich isotherm while Ni(II) and Cd(II) follows the Langmuir isotherm. Kinetic experiments were also performed on individual and multi-ion metal systems and the applicability of the Lagergren kinetic model was also investigated on both systems.
