The effects of graphite nanofibers (GNFs) on the cure reaction and mechanical properties of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A-based (DGEBA) epoxy resins were investigated. Isothermal and non-isothermal tests for cure behaviors were performed with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the mechanical interfacial properties of the resulting composites were determined by interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and fracture toughness (KIC) behaviors. The results showed that a shift of the exothermic reaction peak to lower temperatures was observed in the presence of GNFs, which was probably due to the role of a strong catalyst. Also, the GNFs led to an improvement of both ILSS and KIC of the composites, which could be attributed to the increasing of the internal stress of the composites. |
