NIR-responsive drug releasing gold nanorod based on phase change material |

A near infrared light responsive drug releasing system was prepared. Gold nanorod (AuNR) was covered with mesoporous silica shell and the blend of drug and phase change material (PCM) was loaded in the mesopore structure of nanoparticle. The material showed photothermal effect by AuNR in the core and the heat readily changed the phase of PCM to dissolve out the drug into the media. Our system showed an improved drug releasing profile under both irradiation of NIR and change of temperature just above body temperature. Since the PCM has good capability to dissolve various hydrophobic drugs, it can be concluded that our novel system has a high potential for further biomedical application for delivery of hydrophobic drugs with NIR-responsive releasing behavior. |
