Nafion, perfluorinated ionic polymer, can effectively transport hydrated ions due to a nanophase-seperated ion-cluster morphology. Recently, we developed heat-compression method, as new thickness-scale up/down processing technique of ionomers. In the present work, effectively improving morphology and electro-active characteristics of multi-stacked Nafion were observed and compared with those of commercial or solution-casted Nafion. We demonstrated that each of ionic aggregate could be incorporated in each joining surface, owing to the thermal transition inside ionic aggregates and the relaxation of cryatalline, following that, in the hydrated state, could lead to growing cluster network with the proper interface adhesion force. Due increasing electrochemical and mechanical characteristics, we will achieve wide applicability of Nafion, for example, fuel cell membrane, mechanical sensor, and electro-active actuator. |
