Durability of biocomposites reinforced EBI or alkali treated fibers in hygrothermal condition |

The henequen(HQ) natural fiber reinforced polypropylene(PP) biocomposites were fabricated. HQ fibers were treated with electron beam irradiation(EBI) of 10kGy dose or 5wt% NaOH solution. In this research, we investigated the long term durability of biocomposites reinforced with EBI or alkali treated henequen natural fiber and PP matrix at 60oC and 85%RH. The changes of thermal stability, storage modulus for the specimens maintained in the wet environment were characterized with the duration time. polypropylene is stable at 60oC and 85% RH for 1000 hours resulting in the no decrease of dynamic mechanical performance. Biocomposite reinforced with 10kGy EB treated HQ showed relatively stable than biocomposite reinforced with raw or alkali treated HQ in the duration time. |
