Amino acids and biochemicals have an important role in many fields. Such biochemicals are usually amphoteric. They exist both as anions and cations, depending upon the solution pH. Ion-exchange has been the most widely used technology in various stages of the separation process for the industrial production. Although adsorption capacities of nonionic polymeric sorbents are less than that of an ion exchanger, the desorption step may be easier and faster than the case when one employs an ion exchanger. Therefore, it is meaningful to investigate the adsorption equilibria, kinetics and dynamics of amino acids in detail. In this work, the equilibrium amounts for amino acids such as phenylalanine, tryptophan and cephalosporin C on nonionic polymeric sorbents are measured in terms of pH, temperature, organic solvents and hydropobicity of sorbents.
