The splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen by using semiconductor photocatalyst in visible light is potentially one of the most promising ways for the photochemical conversion and storage of solar energy. Efficient semiconductor materials for this purpose must possess certain characteristics such as suitable band gap energies, stability toward photo corrosion, and suitable physical characteristics. We now wish to report a new mixed metal oxide semiconductor photocatalyst shows significant activity for photochemical hydrogen production from water under illumination with either UV or visible light. Details of synthesis, characterization and activity of the novel catalysts will be discussed. |
