Graphene is in the limelight as one of the promising nano-materials for improving the mechanical and thermal properties of nano-composites due to its two-dimensional structure with thickness in nanometer scale, high specific surface area and outstanding electrical and mechanical properties. Many methods to produce the graphene have been reported, however, most of these methods are complex. In this study, graphene nanoplates (GNPs) were produced by simple method. The natural graphite (NG) was exfoliated in 4,4’-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) without solvent. The graphene/MDI mixture obtained, then, was employed for the preparation of the nanocomposites of polyurethane (PU) with poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) and butandiol (BD). Effects of the graphene/MDI on thermal and mechanical properties of polyurethane nanocomposites were investigated. It was found that the physical properties of PU elastomers could be improved efficiently by the graphene exfoliated with MDI. |
