Composites used in high temperature application require the chemical stability, environmental oxidation resistance, and load bearing capability. These properties mainly depend on the properties of individual constituents. However, they also strongly depend on high temperature compatibility of components, interfacial phase stability. From the thermochemical and mechanical data, AlN-SiC-BN combination was selected. Composites were hot pressed in a graphite die under nitrogen gas flow. The properties of the composites, such as thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and oxidation resistance were characterized. We also try to use this composite to the application of sheath material in ceramic heater. The thin layer of mullite protects the oxidation of the composites in the temperature of heater application. |
