The activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were modified by fluorination treatment and glycidyl meathacrylate (GMA) graft polymerization in order to introduce chelating groups. The surface properties of the ACFs were determined with FT-IR and XPS. The specific surface area and pore volume were calculated from BET's equation. The adsorption amount of heavy metal ions was confirmed by ICP-AES. As the experimental results, the fluorination treatment and GMA graft polymerization led to the introduction of IDA groups on ACFs surfaces. The relative intensity of oxygen peaks increased with increasing the treatment time of fluorination. The result was indicated that the radicals were risen due to the increase treatment time of fluorination, in spite of decrease of specific surface area by pore blocking. However, the adsorption amount of the heavy metal ions was significantly increased with increasing the treatment time of fluorination. |
