Stable poly(acrylamide-co-divinylbenzene) microspheres composed of various concentrations of divinylbenzene from 5 to 75 mol.% relative to acrylamide monomer are prepared by precipitation polymerization. Precipitation polymerization of acrylamide and divinylbenzene initiated by a azo compounds initiator, AIBN, was achieved at monosolvent system and a solvent composition of acetonitrile/water. Polymerization characteristics including yield of polymerization, particle size and uniformity, surface area, and thermal properties are investigated. The number-average particle diameter increase with concentration of divinylbenzene in monomer. Furthermore, it is found that the concentration of divinylbenzene plays a significant role in determining yield, size, stability and thermal properties of the microspheres. |
