In this study, the relationship between pore structure of carbon and capacitive performance for ion adsorption in aqueous system such as supercapacitor and capacitive deinoinzation was investigated. Porous carbons were prepared from a rice husk with the silicon compounds that can be used as a mesopore template. Rice husk derived carbons, which have a similar specific surface area but different pore structure, were prepared by KOH activation alone or steam activation after HF-etching treatment to remove silicon compounds. It was confirmed that the mesoporous carbon has improved rate performance and cycle stability as an active material of the aqueous supercapacitor. In addition, it was applied as an electrode material of capacitive deionization that is a water purification technique using electrochemical adsorption and desorption. Even with the same specific surface area, the developed mesopores improved the kinetic performance. |
