제목 Natural Scaffolds for retinal pigment epithelial cells in vitro
초록 Transplantation of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells is a promising treatment modality to repair retinal damage in age-related degeneration. For this purpose, it is necessary to establish cell culture techniques that allow acquisition of proper functional and morphological characteristics. The transplantation of RPE cells requires that the transplanted cells form a monolayer in the subretinal space. Since previous studies have shown that transplanted cells in suspension do not form a monolayer, it will be necessary to transplant preformed RPE cell monolayers at the location of the exposed photoreceptors. To establish cell monolayers, RPE cells were cultured on SIS sheets. Cells were examined for morphology, for characteristics of differentiation and viability on SIS sheet. These studies revealed that RPE cells adhere, proliferate, form monolayers. These scaffolds can support an intact functional monolayer of healthy differentiated RPE cells.
