Polymeric membrane processes are widely used for water purification and desalination. Especially, reverse osmosis (RO) membranes are able to reject small ions such as sodium chloride in salt water. To obtain high water flux as well as high rejection, various approaches have been studied. Amongst them, ultrafast water transport through CNT has been attracted many interests. Polymer/CNT nanocomposites have been studied but most of them have failed to achieve high flux and high rejection. Here we demonstrate thin-film polyamide membranes including MWCNTs, improving water flux as well as low salt passage. This could be achieved by using cap-opened MWCNTs via thermal oxidation method |
