Mesoporous polypyrrole was fabricated using hard template method in order to remove heavy metal ion from wastewater. Colloidal silica was modified with CDVS and encapsulated with polypyrrole by chemical oxidation polymerization. Silica particles were removed by HF, or NaOH solutions, and mesoporous was formed. TEM images of the mesoporous PPys reveal that the pore sizes of mesoporous PPys are correspond to those of silica template. Mesoporous PPy had a higher complexation affinity for the soft metal ion(Hg2+, Ag2+, Pb2+), rather than hard metal ions(Cu2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, and Cr3+). Surface areas of mesoporous polypyrroles were evaluated as a function of silica content on polypyrrole/silica nanocomposites. |
