Since quantum dots (QDs) have attracted great attentions due to their unique physical characteristics such as narrow emission bands and size-dependent optical properties, multifarious QDs applications including optoelectronic device and biological imaging has been vigorously studied. Even so, it is still limited because initial optical properties of QDs were quickly degraded from the stressor such as oxidative species, moisture and heat. In this respect, semi-crystalline polyethylene (PE) can be a good candidate for protecting QDs because PE has outstanding barrier properties such as low moisture vapor transport rate and moderate oxygen transport rate. By utilizing the self-assembly of PE, we incorporated QDs into the between single crystal lamellae. By analysis of WAXD and TEM, we found the mechanism how QDs were encapsulated via self-assembly. We also fabricated QDs-silicone-composite and stored at hot and hot/humid environments to investigate the effect of encapsulation. |
