Sensor materials based on metal oxide semiconductors for the detection of combustible gases, environmental monitoring, food security, and chemical process control are being actively developed. Various metal oxide-semiconductor-based gas sensors using materials such as ZnO, WO3, α-Fe2O3 , CuO, Cu2O, SnO2, NiO, SnO and In2O3 have been used to detect harmful and toxic gases. Among the metal oxides, SnO and SnO2 have become the most prominent sensing material, and many SnO2 based sensor devices have so far been realized. In this work, several nanostructure of tin oxide such as SnO nanostructure as thin film, nanoplates; SnO2 nanowire; SnO2/SnO; SnO2/ZnO; SnO/ZnO heterostructures have been successfully obtained through using physical and chemical methods. The morphology and crystal structure based on these structures were analyzed by XRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM and XPS, respectively. Subsequently, the sensing performances of sensor based on these structure were investigated in terms of representative oxidizing and reducing gases. It is found that the high potential of the sensor based on these structure as a NO2; NH3 and H2S sensors. A possible gas-sensing mechanism was proposed and investigated detail based on these material. |
