Recent advances in the understanding of the surface dynamics of a solid have been made on improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces. In this work, the manufacturing method of conventional carbon fibers and the effect of surface treatment on fibers had been studied in real commercial applications. As a result, the surface treatments changed the surface properties of the carbon fibers, mainly through formation of oxygen functional groups. Mechanical interfacial properties also showed that the increase in specific components or hydrogen bonding between the OH groups on carbon fibers and the O ring in epoxy matrices played an important role in improving the ILSS, KIC, and GIC of the composite system studied. |
