Infrared electrochromic devices have attracted interests mostly due to their applications in military camouflages and satellite thermal controls. Here we have developed electrochromic devices for adjusting transmittance of infrared light between 7.5 μm and 13 μm using PEDOT as an active layer. The devices consisted of anti-reflection germanium substrates, infrared transparent electrodes with grid pattern of square, PEDOT, and liquid electrolyte. In order to maximize the transmittance modulation, we varied the thickness of PEDOT film and electrolyte. Results showed that upon reversible doping and undoping, the device yielded transmittance contrast of 76% with response rate under 2.3 sec. Thermal images by placing an object behind the device were captured by an infrared camera and the images were consistent with the measured transmittance data from FT-IR. |
